Jesus Healed because He cared

Matthew 9 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. ] When he saw the crowds,  he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless like sheep without a shepherd. Thehealing handsn he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest….

Early on in my Christianity I received a misguided notion that Jesus  healed people so that he can he can  evangelize to them  afterwards. After all no one wants to listen to the gospel on an empty stomach. However as I matured and developed a better understanding of the Bible, I have grown to believe that Jesus healed people  because he cared for them .

As he began his ministry, Jesus quoted from the prophet to describe his work on earth, which was essentially  to preach the good news  and minister to people

Luke 4:18 ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
                          because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed’,”

I believe the deeds Jesus performed were examples of the lesser used to declare a greater reality. In others God was saying that I not only  I care about your physical well-being  in the here in now, I also care about your eternal well-being.

His compassion, and love for mankind moved him to heal the downtrodden masses. There was no hidden agenda, no strings attached no, “ if I do this , then  you do that “ clauses.

People typically are moved to listen to someone whom they believe genuinely care about their well being. Which brings me to the application for today?

While the old saying no cares how much you know, but would rather know how much you care is true, people don’t like to be baited into an obligated sales pitch. Let our good deeds not be done as bargaining chips rather let us bless others because we have been so richly blessed.
