God’s New Covenant People

1Peter 2:9-11 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy

In The Old Testament God called the descendents of Israel to be his covenant people. Their purpose was to know (become intimate with) God and make God known to the world. Somewhere along the way, they failed. When God established his New Covenant with those who accepted Christ, he gave us the privilege to become his new chosen nation.

We exist to live in an intimate relationship with God, and to reveal the true God to the world. As a holy nation, we may be the closest representation of God that someone may see. As priests, we interceded on the behalf of others; all while proclaiming, “How great our God is”.

We are to God and the world what the Jews were intended to be.
