Heirs of the Promise

Genesis 22:15;

I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, 18 and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed

Gal 3:29And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise

God gave two major promises to Abraham: that God was going to bless Abraham’s descendants, and that he was going to use one of Abraham’s descendents to bless all families of the earth.

Paul later expounds on the implications of this by stating that Christ is the seed (descendant) that God used to bless all nations. Since Christ is a descendant of Abraham then we can become children of God by faith in Christ, through the promises. By becoming children of faith, we also become heirs of the. Therefore, to a degree the promises apply to us as Christians today.

When we become Christians God recreates and reshapes our lives. As a result, we become better husbands, wives, parents and children. In this manner, we bless our offspring because we end the cycle of brokenness and transform our families. The other promises that applies to us is that when God is active in our lives we began to affect the lives of others around us. We also become his ambassador as we bring people to God. In this manner, all nations (other families) are blessed.
